Masai Mara is known around the world for where the wildebeest migration happens, between here and the Serengeti over the Mara River every year. From mid-July to October zebras and wildebeest risk their lives in the great migration together. While we went in January we didn't see the migration but did see a few wildebeest that stayed behind most likely the sick and weak.

The ecosystem of the Greater Masai Marais is made up of around 1510 square kilometers. It became a wildlife sanctuary in 1961, and a portion of this land has been returned to the Maasai community who use it to sustain and improve their way of life. Known for the highest assembly of wild animals in the world Masai Mara has more than 40% of Africa's larger mammals in its endless plains.
