Travel Hacks

Finding a flight

When traveling the most expensive part is getting to where you want to go. This is what keeps many people from looking into traveling in the first place. But it does not have to be that way! There are lots of tricks out there to help find deals on flights, even more so if you do not have an exact date in mind and better yet a location!

        - Expedia is how we usually find our deals, we have bundled the hotel with the flights before and saved but not every time.

        - Hopper- Can search destinations and see what times are the cheapest, and can be notified when prices drop.

        - Skyscanner- Can leave the destination blank to find the cheapest places to fly, search by date.

        - Google flights- Have your departure location, leave dates, and destination open and search for the best deals.

        - Kayak- Search flights, hotels, car rentals, filter for what you want, and track prices.

        - Going.com- Traveling subscription on deals (haven't tried yet)

        - Momondo- Havent used yet has explored the world options with prices from your  local airport to around the world.

Luggage soft case vs hard

We have had some interesting experiences without luggage while traveling.

Hard case- In Kenya, once we got our luggage we noticed they were missing wheels from 3 out of 4, and two were cracked so badly we could not use them. There was also a problem after we got new cases on the way home with one getting cracked. For long trips, we have decided not to use hard cases.

Soft cases- In most of our travels we have used soft shell cases, and haven't had too many problems if we pack right. Of course, you need to ensure that breakables are in the center and wrapped in cushions to keep them safe. They have the ability to fit more in them than the hard shells do too.  While they don't have the outer protection, they move with the abuse they receive during loading and flights making it easier for them to not get damaged during your travels!

Converting your money

When going to another country and needing to exchange your money for the local currency, the best way to do this is through your bank or credit union. They usually offer the best exchange rates and some won't charge extra fees when exchanging. Remember when you do order give your bank some notice, it takes more time for exotic currency.
