Sky Adventure

Hiking, skybridges and ziplines

The Sky Adventure Tours is east of Lake Arenal and has amazing views of Arenal Volcano. Once you arrive and take an open-air gondola up to the observation deck where you can return to the ground in one of two ways, the one you came up by or ziplines. 8 different cables connecting canons and tree tops for over 2460 feet with stunning views of Arenal Volcano and the Arenal Lake at a maximum height of 660 feet through the rainforest.

We wanted to go ziplining but finding one that actually allowed for more weight was a bit challenging. I finally found sky adventures and the best thing was that they offered more than just the ziplines! They have sky bridges that go over and through the rainforest, that you walk across as you hike a snaking trail of 2.5 miles. These are the first hanging bridges in Costa Rica, Sky adventures are the founders of these world-famous skywalks.

  Hi- Hola

The bridges do rock a bit as you walk across, walking a little more bull-legged seemed to help with balancing across it. They do have signs on them saying that only a specific amount of people should be on it at a time. While we were going across there was a family that was not in a tour that didn't seem to see these signs that tried to run past us about halfway across. A guide is definitely the way to go, while hiking we got to learn where lots of fun facts about the forest. Our guide was telling us about how he loved growing up in the area and how much he loved birding. Also, he showed us where the vipers liked to hide, without this knowledge it is very possible to rub up against where one may be without realizing it.

The ziplines were our next adventure, at Sky adventure they allow up to 300 pounds to use the ziplines and up to 46-inch waist, and 26-inch leg loops. They recommend anyone with any kinds of health problems should not do these, my mom has bars in her back and was recommended not to do them. After doing the ziplines I agreed I got some whiplash for sure! This zipline setup also has pully systems that make it where you do not have to have hands on the cables making it much more comfertable. The braking system is also different than at other places that have the main break and a backup one you pull the leavers side to side instead of up and down. When they shake the line you start to break, I did not feel when they were shaking it very well this caused me to get quite a bit of whiplash coming in too fast and stopping very quickly. I don't know if I would ever want to do it again, while it was fun there were a bunch of things I didn't like. Another is how windy it was, I defiantly wish I had goggles or glasses on so I could enjoy the views a bit more.
