Wadi Rum

4/20/2023

Walking on Mars is every sci-fi fan's dream after watching iconic movies like "Mars" and "Martian". The closest we can get right now is walking in the desert where they were filmed. The iconic rock formations have also been featured in some Star Wars movies such as "The Rise of Skywalker" and "Rogue One". It truly feels like being on another planet walking on the red sands.

We did the four-hour tour

around Wadi Rum dessert,

seeing the sites from the

back of the truck with the

wind and sand in our hair.

Red sand dunes- Our first stop was at the red sand dunes, we were still very sore from hiking around Petra so we decided not to hike up the dunes.

Lawrence of Arabia's house-  This house is where Lawrence reportedly slept while he was in the desert, was built by the romans on top of the ruins of an earlier building. The original house was built by the Nabataeans more than two thousand years ago. The structure was used a station for passing caravans. The Bedouins have a different name for this place they call it "The Small Palace"

Um Fruth rock bridge- A rocky arch that was molded over the eons by the water and wind until it looks like the 15 meter high walkway it is today.

Mushroom rock- Wind erosion has sculpted this into its one-of-a-kind structure and one of the most photographed solitary rocks in the entire desert.

Inscripciones Anfaishiyya- These petroglyphs are believed to have been carved over 2500 to 2800 years ago. Here you will see people from the past and how they documented scenes with their camels, hunting, armed men and other symbols.

Valley of the moon

Sunset- We were rushed to see the sunset at the end of the tour. While it was amazing I would have preferred more time seeing the last two sites, than being rushed.
