Rothschilds Giraffe
In western Kenya and eastern Uganda, the Rothschilds giraffe lives wild in a few protected desert and savanna plains that are protected areas. They stand between 16 and 19 feet tall and are distinguished from other giraffes by not only their dark orange and brown patches surrounded by areas of beige but by their ossicones as well. Most giraffes have two ossicones or horn-like growths on top of their head, but the Rothschild's giraffe has a third in the center of its forehead as well as one smaller one behind each ear. When you go downtown Nairobi you get to have a personal experience with these amazing creatures!
